Dear Sandy,
I write this with love and curiosity. I have asked why but made the choice to surrender the mental fight to understand you. I typically wait til the last moment to pack, but not for this trip. My excitement and adrenaline have been pounding. Items for the trip were bought, after multiple to-do lists were written and reviewed. More than enough phone calls and emails back and forth with Alizz. My backpack has been packed since last Friday. Saturday evening I got a call that my flight for today to DC was canceled, because of you. Ali is now coming to Houston on Thursday and we are leaving together on Friday. I am using this is an opportunity to practice just being. This is the beginning to our unknown shenanigans. Stay tuned...

Mrs. Sandy Frankenstorm
Sandy!
I hope that when you read the word Sandy you heard Danny Zuko's voice in your head. If you did you will definitely enjoy this blog and if you didn't that's okay too but we might not always be on the same page :) So as everyone on the East coast is well aware Hurricane Sandy has changed our plans. We were planning on leaving on Wednesday but because of the "Frankenstorm" (this is Sandy's last name obviously) we are going to leave on Friday.
I'm flying to Houston on Thursday where I will attempt to get as many Texas style activities in including attending a rodeo, hugging humidity as I miss it always, counting my cattle and whatever else Sarizz has in mind.
It seems almost hard to believe that we are actually going on this trip. It seems like we're those cool people that are going on a traveling adventure. But the thing is when you are those cool people you don't think you're that cool. You kind of know what you're doing is awesome but you don't really get it. I think I might actually get it when I start to pack all of my things in my backpack. Then it will seem real. Now all of my things are mostly in bags from REI in the corner of my room.
I'm planning on voting tomorrow. It's so great that I can vote early in Maryland although it will be strange experiencing American things while not in America. It will be interesting to see what the reaction is in Peru when we find out who won the election. Do they even care? Maybe, or maybe we are just self-centered Americans and their news will report on the weather of Machu Picchu instead of the new or hopefully not new leader of the good ole USA. Thanksgiving will be the most weird, but I'm getting ahead of myself we haven't even left yet.
So here is the official start to our blog. Sarizz and I will try to keep everyone up to date and informed of all of our South American adventures and the shenanigans we will inevitably find ourselves in as we are troublemakers who love to laugh and stir it up. I will bring a small laptop and hopefully we will find internet along the way.
I hope this blog will be a place where we can be honest and tell our stories in a truthful entertaining way so that everyone out their can feel like they can have a piece of our "coolness." So come on and join us...
xoxo,
Ali
